Central Otago is New Zealand's southernmost wine region, celebrated for its pristine landscapes, semi-continental climate, and world-class Pinot Noir.
Central Otago lies inland in New Zealand’s South Island, sheltered by the Southern Alps and shaped by mountains, lakes and alpine valleys. It is the country’s only semi-continental wine region, with hot summers, cold winters and pronounced day–night temperature shifts.
These extremes make winegrowing challenging, but they also create wines of purity, intensity and character. Pinot Noir leads the way, alongside vibrant Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Gris, all shaped by altitude, light and long, even ripening seasons.
