West Brompton Walking Route

Brompton Cemetery is since 1852 the first (and only) London cemetery to be Crown property, managed by The Royal Parks, in West Brompton in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It is one of the Magnificent Seven cemeteries.

The architecture of this cemetery is certainly worthy of its eminent residents. The sweeping colonnades of the spectacular Great Circle frame the view along elegant Central Avenue to the imposing Chapel beyond.

Built in 1828 from a £1,000,000.00 fund created as an act of thanksgiving by Parliament for the defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte at Waterloo the church was designed to meet the needs of the new communities growing up in west London.

Stamford Bridge is a football stadium in Fulham, adjacent to the borough of Chelsea in West London. It is the home of Premier League club Chelsea. With a capacity of 40,343, it is the ninth largest venue of the Premier League and the eleventh largest football stadium in England.

 

Opened in 1877, the stadium was used by the London Athletic Club until 1905, when new owner Gus Mears founded Chelsea Football Club to occupy the ground; Chelsea have played their home games there ever since. It has undergone major changes over the years, most recently in the 1990s when it was renovated into a modern, all-seater stadium.
