Znak Pitanja

Belgrade’s oldest tavern serving Serbian dishes in a charming 19th-century setting.
In the historic Kosančićev Venac area, across from the Cathedral Church of Saint Michael the Archangel, you will find Kafana Znak Pitanja (the “Question Mark Tavern”) – the oldest traditional tavern in Belgrade, dating back to 1823. With its wooden beams, simple furniture, and warm atmosphere, it offers visitors an authentic step into the city’s past. The unusual name came after a dispute with the church over its original signboard, leaving only a “?” – which became its permanent name. Here you can enjoy classic Serbian dishes, local wines, and rakija, while sitting on rustic chairs and soaking up the charm of a place that has hosted generations of Belgraders. Visiting Znak Pitanja is more than a meal – it is an experience of Belgrade’s history, tradition, and hospitality in its purest form.
