The Copper Route travels through some of Australia’s most ambitious and expectant copper and gold mining enterprises and the once-bustling settlements which grew up around them.
You will visit ghost towns and all-but-abandoned localities, with a few refreshing stops along the way, and of course, historic old pub sites galore. Give some thought to an overnight trip and take in the hospitality at the villages of Nymagee, Euabalong and Mount Hope, where you are guaranteed a cool drink and a good meal.
Check out the farm-stays and camping options available, including beautiful riverside camps on the Lachlan River near Euabalong, and don’t forget to take in some of the amazing stories that live in this memorable landscape.
For the less ambitious there’s also a ‘half loop’ option which can be completed in a few hours circling out to Nymagee and back to Cobar on a mixture of excellent gravel, and mostly sealed road.
